Kansans need the liberty to pursue their own version of happiness in their own way. This requires less regulation, lower taxes, and less government involvement in the day to day life decisions of Kansas families, farmers, businesses, and citizens.
Economic growth is spurred by lower taxes, less regulation and unleashing the creativity, ingenuity, and work ethic of the people of Kansas. We are blessed to live in beautiful state, with a history and tradition of liberty, and an abundance of resources. It is too great a place to be limited by small dreams and sluggish growth. So, in the words of Ronald Reagan: “Let us renew our determination, our courage, and our strength. And let us renew our faith and our hope. We have every right to dream heroic dreams.“
Kansas First. – The federal government is too big, too distant, and too unresponsive. We cannot look in that direction for the preservation of our liberty, our happiness, or our sustenance We must increase our self reliance and assert our sovereignty as an independent state within the United States of America.
Public Safety. – Liberty can not thrive where there is lawlessness. We must enforce our laws, support those who are on the frontline of preserving order, defend the right to keep and bear arms, and insist upon individual acceptance of responsibility for actions.
Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness – these are enumerated in our Declaration of Independence as being among the unalienable rights of the people. I believe that these rights are conferred at conception and must always be defended.
Free Market Capitalism is the only economic system that is consistent with liberty. In order to preserve liberty we must preserve, defend and promote free market capitalism.
Judicial Reform. – Selection of Justices for the Kansas Supreme Court should be open, and transparent, and responsive to the people. Judges are human beings. As such they come with pre-formed opinion, values and beliefs. A Judge’s values, background and beliefs will inform their judicial philosophy. The people have a right to know what might inform the decision making process of their supreme court justices. The proposed amendment to the Kansas Constitution requiring the direct election of Kansas Supreme Court Justices will ensure transparency and accountability in our Supreme Court.
Education is key to appreciating and obtaining the blessings of liberty. Education must not be allowed to become rote indoctrination, or mere preparation to be a good worker, and good consumer. Education must foster creativity, independent thinking and skill development. Education must prepare young Kansans to be self governing and self reliant. Parents are the primary educators. They must be empowered to find, and choose safe, productive ,and effective learning environments which meet the individual needs of their children.
